Inside Out Healing

In today's world, adaptability is key.  Constant shifts in our routine and schedule can cause a type of uncertainty that most Americans may not have had to deal with in decades or ever.  The level of fear that permeates so many lives is understandable if you watch an overabundance of news but I have to say that the patients we work with daily are smart, educated individuals that are living their lives by taking precaution against COVID, but also feel confident about having good immune system function, healthy lifestyle practices, and an understanding that health does not just come from what infection we can ward off.  Health instead is a combination of innate function, lifestyle factors, and sense of wellbeing.

In the US’s traditional health care system, the solution to a symptom or health condition is typically a prescription drug.  If that doesn't work, often more drugs are prescribed and even surgery.  There is a time and a place for this type of care but when it is used as a first line of defense, medications can be over-utilized and have dangerous side-effects.  Most of my patients will tell me that medications definitely don't make you healthier!  Why is it though that some people naturally radiate abundant health and some struggle on a daily basis?

People have an amazing ability to heal themselves and when you can focus on making sure your body is FUNCTIONING as well as possible, health can radiate from the "inside-out" versus being dependent on medications for altering physiology.  When we meet with our patients to consult about their health history, we achieve an understanding of physical, emotional and chemical stressors (pollution, diet, medication) that have affected their body (often for decades).  We perform testing to determine how their body has been reacting to or handling these types of stressors or traumas and put an action plan together for healing, typically involving NSA chiropractic and often nutritional work to support the healing process.  Studies have shown that people under chiropractic care get sick less often, take fewer medications, spend less on medical care, and have a lower risk for the most serious health conditions like heart disease and cancer.  Instead of giving drugs, chiropractic uses this inside-out approach to healing by improving the function of the spine and nervous system.  When this happens, the body's natural ability to heal improves drastically as organ systems are able to receive the proper information from the brain.

The spine is composed of 24 moveable vertebra with corresponding nerve openings.  Messages from the brain travel through the spinal cord and nerves to supply every organ and tissue within the body with information (muscles, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, etc).  Because the spinal bones are moveable and are easily influenced by stress, chemical tension (medications, pollution, poor food choices, etc.) and physical injuries like a tough birth process, falls, injuries, or sitting at a desk daily; changes to this structure can become chronic.  Due to chronic changes of the spine, pressure on the spinal cord and nerves result, causing nerve dysfunction.   According to the University of CO, pressure on a spinal nerve as little as the weight of a dime decreases that nerve’s function by 60%.  This continued decreased function may or may not result in pain, but does affect an organ's ability to function optimally.  As information and signaling from the brain to the rest of the body becomes impaired, health is compromised.

Dr. Scott and I practice Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) chiropractic, in which very gentle and specific contacts are applied to the spine to remove the tension off the spinal cord and nerves, improving the body’s internal communication so our patients can experience optimal healing.  NSA is highly researched by the University of Southern California, University of Wyoming as well as numerous others.  Dr. Scott and I have used NSA to help people naturally heal numbness and tingling, headaches, neck tension, low back pain, sciatic pain, allergy issues, reproductive issues, digestive issues and so much more.  If you are ready to learn the secrets of taking your health to a new level, improving the foundational function of your physiology (your nervous system) and truly healing from the inside-out, attend our complimentary virtual class, “The Vital Shift,” on Wednesday, August 26th at 6:15 pm.  Register HERE.

Once you have your body healing, support it with a healthy lifestyle.  We are currently preparing to hold our Ignite program in September on a virtual platform, led by Jenn Evon, MS, BIB’s Functional Medicine Nutritionist.  Ignite is about having the right nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness strategies to support your healing body.  Check our website for details.  COVID has put in perspective the importance of health; it truly is your most valuable resource.  Create Health by Choice, Not by Chance.
