How Can Something So Gentle Help Me Heal?

One of the most frequent comments I hear from patients about chiropractic is, “I am afraid of adjustments jerking my spine around or being rough.”  Patients are amazed when they hear chiropractic care can be gentle and soothing, without forceful thrusts placed on the spine.  I will explain more about that, but it is important to understand that patients see us every day for a variety of issues including headaches, back pain, neck pain, sciatic issues, tingling and numbness— often after they have seen a number of specialists in our area.  They have often been told the only solution to their issue is pain medication, injections, or surgery.  Some patients have even been told to “live with it” as there are not many solutions due to their age or other health conditions.  They are relieved when we offer a gentle, natural, well-researched, and effective solution to help them heal.

In working with a patient, we go through an evaluation process.  We first speak with our patients to get a sense of their health history and current lifestyle.  Our goal is to truly understand our patients’ issues as well as current goals.  We perform testing that looks at how the muscles and nerves surrounding the spine are functioning.  We look for patterns that are causing the root issue as well as patterns the body has used to compensate for that dysfunction (sometimes compensating for months, many times for years).  If necessary, we take X-rays that helps us view any arthritis or degenerative patterns that have complicated the healing process or increased the pain with resulting inflammation.  If necessary, we take views to determine how the spine is moving or in many chronic situations of pain and dysfunction, not moving.  This information is compiled to achieve a deeper understanding of what has caused the dysfunction as well as what could greatly assist in the healing process.

One of the major ways we help heal the spine is a specific chiropractic process called Network Spinal Analysis (NSA), a researched*, effective and GENTLE way to improve spinal function.  With NSA (as well as the testing we have performed), we are able to detect how the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and nerves have compensated for an issue.  Often, when an injury occurs, the brain sends messages to muscles and tendons to work in a new way to protect this area, causing other areas to overwork and compensate.  This is a great short-term strategy, but over time, if not dealt with, causes the guarded area to not move appropriately.  Inflammation, degeneration, and dysfunction can set into this area while other areas continue to overwork.  When we determine these patterns, we place very specific but very GENTLE contacts along the spine.  These contacts cue the brain to interrupt old, dysfunctional signaling patterns and create new nerve pathways.  With time and repetition, these adjustments allow the spine to adapt and heal, decrease nerve pressure in injured areas, and become more functional.  The process is gentle, relaxing, and as patients heal, they can enjoy life.  It is so rewarding for us to watch the process unfold!  Even more rewarding, because the adjustments decrease fight or flight physiology and increase parasympathetic physiology, patients often have experiences of organ systems healing along with decreased pain, increased function, and improved sense of wellbeing.  *Research performed by the University of Southern California, the University of Wyoming, and many others.

Our mission is to create vibrant health for our community.  If you are wondering if NSA could help you on your journey towards health, call us at 303-215-0390 to receive a $49 new patient consultation and exam (normally $195).

On Monday, July 19that 6:15pm we will be teaching a virtual class called “Detoxification 101.”  We will be discussing how a gentle detoxification process can support the digestive system, liver, kidneys, as well as provide cellular support for decreasing inflammation.  Detoxification can aid almost any healing process.

On Wednesday, August 4that 6:15pm we will be teaching a virtual class called, “The Vital Shift,” in which we explore how a healthy functioning nervous system is a key to healing and optimal health.

Register for classes via our website, BodyInBalanceChiropractic.com/events or by calling us at 303-215-0390.
