The Weight Loss Secret that Changes Your Health Forever
As most of us know, weight loss is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions. When it is a primary focus in our minds, it is common for people to crave the foods that they are not supposed to be eating. After working with so many people on achieving their health goals over the years, I have a secret: CHANGE YOUR FOCUS. Weight loss is a part of becoming a HEALTHIER person. When you change your focus to creating health and vitality in your body, there is a bigger purpose to weight loss.
Why do you want to lose weight? Is it to be around for your children and grandchildren? Is it to feel confident in your life? Is it so you have the energy and vitality to travel the world?
When I am teaching classes and working with patients on how to become HEALTHIER, an area I focus on is INFLAMMATION. Years ago, Time Magazine had a cover entitled The Secret Killer that was about the epidemic of inflammation and its link to the most common diseases that Americans face . When we are inflamed, it affects every cell of our body. Healthy bodies have a high percentage of their bodily fluid and nutrients inside the cells of the body. Inflamed or toxic bodies have less fluid in the cells. This is actually measured in our office (Body In Balance Wellness Center) by a non-invasive test called Bio-Impedence Analysis. Getting a baseline measurement and monitoring improvement can be life-changing for patients.
What causes inflammation?
I am very passionate about helping patients get to their individual, root causes of inflammation. In research and in my experience, here are the many causes of inflammation: chronic stress, the Standard American Diet (processed foods, sugar, high quantities of grains and dairy), lack of movement, improper joint alignment, improper joint motion patterns, as well as chemical exposure and pollution. According to our lifestyle, health history, and genetics, inflammation can affect specific organ systems for different people. At this point, inflammation has been found to be the underlying causes of disease like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune conditions, Alzheimer, Dementia, arthritis, osteoporosis, and contributes to weight gain.
In January, we are going to do 2 classes that focus on getting to the root causes of inflammation. One is our 8 Weeks to Wellness (8WW) Information session. This class will teach our community how to create the lifestyle that will improve inflammatory status, improve weight loss, improve joint health, shift body composition (build muscle, lose fat), and address issues like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, autoimmune conditions, and blood sugar issues (and help you look and feel better). The 8WW Info session will be on January 11th, at 6:30 pm at Body In Balance Wellness Center, 755 Heritage Rd. in Golden.
On January 25th, at 6:30 pm at Body In Balance, I will teach a class entitled: "The Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Lose Weight AND Improve Your Health". We will look at ways to determine foods that specifically increase inflammation for you as well as how to eat for health and vitality.
