About Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy increases blood flow to tense and fatigued muscles and creates balance, relaxation, and normal muscle tone. Like a sponge that is squeezed, a tight muscle cannot hold much fluid to pass through it. This decreases your circulation and increases the strain placed on your heart, which can leave you feeling fatigued and sore. Massage therapy releases contracted muscles and pushes venous blood toward the heart, easing the strain on this vital organ.

Massage therapy has been shown to reduce waste products such as lactic acid that build up in muscles that are overworked. It loosens tight muscles, preventing formation of adhesions that restrict your range of motion and cause arthritis to set in.

Body In Balance Wellness Center offers a wide range of massage therapies. Whether your goal is relief from an area of discomfort, overall improved health or an amazing relaxation experience, we deliver.

Available Massage and Healing Modalities

Please note: When scheduling your massage, be specific as to the type of massage you wish to receive.  This will ensure you are scheduled with the appropriate therapist.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of muscle and connective tissue.  It uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage but the pressure will generally be more intense.  It is also a more focused type of massage, to release chronic muscle tension or knots.  (Also known as adhesions.)

Neuromuscular Massage

Neuromuscular therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which digital pressure and friction are used in areas of strain in the muscle.  These areas of strain are called tender or trigger points and are the cause of muscular pain symptoms.  Trigger points are areas of hypersensitivity in a muscle caused by overstrain.  Neuromuscular therapy is used to treat many different soft tissue problems.

Sports Massage

Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete's sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.  Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage in the United States. It involves the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. The pressure used can be light, medium or deep. This type of massage is used to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation.

Therapeutic Massage

Luxurious strokes using light to moderate pressure in a consistent flow focusing on releasing tension, tightness and energy blocks in the body.  Supports stimulation and balancing of the nervous system activating the body’s natural healing process.  Healing benefits include deep relaxation, increased circulation, flushing of body toxins, and improved muscular function.
